Stay gold, Texas Bullion Depository
LEANDER – Austin-based MHT Constructors LLC has broken ground on the 40,000-sf Texas Bullion Depository on Heritage Grove Rd. near US 183.
Lone Star Tangible Assets (LSTA) will operate the facility, which will be the first precious metals depository in the country that will be administered by a state. It will be a class-three vault—the highest level.
Construction is expected to wrap in late 2019. The facility can be expanded by 85,000 sf.
According to LSTA Chairman Matt Ferris, the depository will weigh as much as ten NASA space shuttles and have room for up to $350 billion in gold, silver, platinum, and other precious metals—more than what is held in Fort Knox, the famous U.S. Bullion Depository in Kentucky.
The depository will be overseen by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
